Gio set for dream farewell
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has admitted he couldn't have written a better script, after reiterating his decision to retire after Sunday's World Cup final.
The 35-year-old Netherlands full-back will bring the curtain down on a 17-year professional career whatever happens against Spain at Soccer City, Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
The former Feyenoord, Arsenal, Rangers and Barcelona defender will win his 106th international cap in the biggest game of his career before heading off into the retirement sunset.
"My last match turns out to be the match that I dreamed of," explained the Dutch skipper.
"It is wonderful that I have the opportunity to win the World Cup as my final stop, far better that dying in the group stage.
"Everything has converged at just the right moment. It is fabulous that this World Cup will be the pinnacle of my work."
