Forlan proud of Uruguay

Uruguay forward Diego Forlan spoke of his pride in his side, despite them falling 3-2 to Germany in the World Cup third-place play-off in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.

Forlan volleyed home his side's second goal of the clash as he ended the competition with five goals and, although he was jaded, he has admitted finishing fourth has been a huge achievement.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "We wanted to reach the final, it wasn't possible, but we did our best in every game. Now it's time for a rest.

"Finishing among the top four teams is spectacular. At the beginning we never thought we'd taste a moment like this. We wanted to finish third, but we'll remember the positives.

Meanwhile, the Atletico Madrid striker, who struck the crossbar in the final seconds, was left to rue his narrow miss.

"It just missed by a fraction," he added. "We improved a lot in the second half but we made a couple of mistakes and the game got away. I'm pretty tired but it's over now."
