The 32 teams who will compete for the 2010 World Cup have now been decided. All the teams have gone through an arduous qualifying campaign to reach the finals.
EUROPEThe UEFA zone saw 53 teams competing for 13 places at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Winners of groups went automatically through and second-placed teams entered a play-off. France, Greece, Portugal and Slovenia were the teams to progress from the play-offs

ASIAThe Asian Football Confederation had 4 automatic qualifying places and one place in a play-off. 43 teams tried to reach the finals but it was the reletive football heavyweights of Australia, Japan and South Korea that qualified. The biggest shock came when North Korea also reached the finals for the first time since 1966

AFRICAThere were five places available from the African section of qualifying. There were a total of 53 nations participating with South Africa competing even though they had already qualified as tournament host (this qualifying round was used for both the African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup™). This was the first time since 1934 that the hosts have competed in the FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers.

SOUTH AMERICAThe South American Zone of 2010 FIFA World Cup™ qualification saw 10 teams competing for 4 automatic places and 1 play-off place. The format was a simple one - one group with everyone playing each other twice (both home and away). The automatic entries were Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay. Uruguay also qualified by merit of winning a play-off against Costa Rica.
