Moses Mabhida Stadium
Twenty-two thousand people watched AmaZulu FC play Maritzburg in this stadium’s first game last weekend – a smidge of the 70,000 capacity which will fill it next summer. A 350-metre arch soars high above the pitch in a nod to Wembley, but with one significant difference – Durban’s arch is open to visitors who take a cable car to a viewing platform at the top of the arch. They’ll make you come down before kick off, mind.
Claim to fame
Durban loves its football. It hosted South Africa’s match against England in 2003, which despite the host’s 2-1 defeat helped launch their bid for the 2010 World Cup.
