Peter Mokaba Stadium
An historically significant stadium, this, being named after one of South Africa’s most active anti-apartheid campaigners. Original plans to upgrade the old Peter Mokaba Stadium were abandoned in favour of the new 45,000-seater venue whose design is said to be inspired by the locally iconic Baobab tree. It resides next to it’s elder relative though, so visitors can still get a glimpse of the stadium in which Didier Drogba made his Ivory Coast debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in 2001.
Claim to fame
It wasn’t until 1995 that professional football came to Polokwane, so the locals are bound to be relatively unspoiled – Emile Heskey will look like a footballing genius with the ball at his balletic feet.
