Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Named after and indeed owned by one of Africa’s richest tribes, the Bafokeng - who take 22 percent royalties of platinum taken from their land - the original Bafokeng stadium built in 1999 was renovated a decade later for the Confederations Cup
and has since added 4,000 extra seats, a new roof, floodlights, electronic scoreboards and a new PA system. Let’s hope the platinum-rich Bafokeng knows what’s coming - and secures their precious metal before the fans touch down.
Claim to fame
The Bafokeng own Platinum Stars FC who finished 13th in their league last season but
with owners who make 2 billion rand (£164million) per year, the future is bright.
